![]() ![]() So what exactly are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump relay? Does a bad one still allow the car to run for 10 seconds then die? I can begin to do a lot more diagnostics, but would greatly appreciate a simple explanation on the relay. It does this consistently now- I jump GND and F/P, hear fuel pump, start and run car just fine, then remove the jumper wire and watch the car die within 5-10 seconds. Started it again with the jumped connection, and it was running fine for another 5 minutes.then, I removed the jumper wire while it was still running. Car was an Air Force brat, stationed all over the world and Lord knows what kind of fuel quality it was subjected to.Ģ) I ran a jumper wire between the "GND" and "F/P" ("ground" and "fuel pump") in the engine compartment's "DIAGNOSTIC" little black box.ģ) Turned ignition to "ON" and I can now hear the fuel pump running! Started car- it ran fine for 5 minutes until I turned off the ignition. Progress.that original fuel filter must have been pretty clogged. Did this consistently about 20 times over the course of a day, then I gave up and pushed it home.Ĭhecked out dozens of excellent threads here.ġ) I replaced the ORIGINAL fuel filter, and then the car would start and run fine for 5-10 seconds, then die. Car would start and run for 1-2 seconds, then die. Turned ignition to "ON" position, did NOT hear fuel pump. The car bucked violently (he forgot to put the clutch in) and then died. ![]() People of Miata!
